PN MARIST FUTSAL ACADEMY

"If it wasn't for futsal, I wouldn't be the player I am today" - Cristiano Ronaldo

About our Academy

Futsal is one of the fastest growing sports in New Zealand and once you have tried it, you will fall in love!

We are passionate about Futsal and have seen first-hand the benefits to player development of youth playing futsal.

At our Academy, we focus on all four aspects of the futsal player- technical, tactical, physical and psychological.

Our sessions focus on getting quality repetitions with and without pressure as well as create game situations with constant decision making on and off the ball.
Our Futsal Coaches include Juliano Schmeling, International  Futsal Coach, and former Futsal-White, Adam Cowan, bringing a wealth of experience and knowledge to the academy.

Please see below for more information on the benefits of futsal and how it contributes to a players Football development - in the words of Lionel Messi "it really helped me become who I am today".

Our Academy offers year-around training and tournament opportunities for the players (boys and girls) - join the exciting, fast and technical sport that is Futsal and see the benefits for yourself.

"Futsal has been very important in my life. In developing my technique, quick thinking, short movements. I think futsal is fundamental in developing a footballers career. It was very important in mine" - Neymar

The Benefits of Futsal

Futsal is a five-a-side form of football, typically played indoors, with a less-bouncy ball, a smaller court, and a shorter playing time. Originating in the YMCAs of football-mad Uruguay, it is now a global game, with (of course) its own World Cup.

The benefits of futsal include:
  • improves players decision making skills

  • provides players with more touches on the ball

  • the heavier ball increases the power of players

  • it develops the confidence in players to go 1v1 against their opponent

  • it allows players to be creative in getting around their opposition

  • it improves reaction time

Because the sport is a great skill developer, demanding quick reflexes, fast thinking and pin point passing, it is an exciting game for children as well as adults. It develops precise ball control and technical skill, agility, lightening reflexes and decision making.

After playing in enclosed areas and learning to think and react quickly, players find when they play to the full game they react well under pressure.

Playing in enclosed areas develops creativity; players are also constantly placed in demanding decision making situations in enclosed areas which is a major reason why Futsal is one of the finest teachers of the quick pass and move. In football it is very hard to defend against a team that is adept at this type of play. Playing the beautiful game of football is developed through Futsal.
